Maths-Octagonal Pyramid

 today my maths group made 3d shapes out of paper and I made this one:

It says on the paper that it's an octagonal pyramid and I think its pretty cool. Some people made other shapes but I made this one because someone threw my other one out so this is what I have.

Maths-Geometry

 This week for Maths we have been learning about the faces of shapes like a square has 8 faces and a circle has 1 face. We also had to figure out the birds eye view of shapes and the side views of shapes drawn on isometric paper.

Athletics

 Yesterday the whole school did athletics we were all put into separate groups of boys and girls in year groups. i was in a year 7 and 8 boys group and we did shot put, discus, middle distance, sprints, long jump and high jump. the first thing we did was middle distance and we all raced to the end of the bike track and the top 3 got into the zones so they could compete against other schools winners. after morning tea we did discus and shot put we all took turns and the furthest shot got into zones for both of them or just one and after lunch we did long jump and high jump.  for long jump i got 3.2 meters but the furthest jump for year 8s was 4.20 meters and year 7s was 4.27 both made by my friends. after last break we watched sprints and cheered them on as they raced.

10 Ways manners make the world better.

 manners are used all around the world but some people don't use their manners so here are 10 ways manners can make the world a better place.

1. the first way is if you don't use your manners that is very rude and can hurt people's feelings and sometimes get you into arguments and even in fights depending on the person.
2. if you use your manners people can be a lot happier than they would have been if you didn't and i bet if someone didn't use their manners for you you would be a little annoyed.
3. sometimes using your manner makes you a little bit more liked by people and maybe a better friend.
4. if you don't say please aften or even thank you you will stop getting as many things as you used to and if you say please and thank you quite a lot you might get stuff you want
5. if you call people hurtful names they don't like you as much because they don't like it
6. think of the nice things people do for you and think of what you could do in return maybe use your manners and be grateful for it because your parents gave you a house to live in food to eat and even raised you 
7. doing things for others would make their lives a lot easier and maybe earn you some money to get stuff you want people would be happier and you would be happier so it's a win-win people would probably like it if you used your manners more and you would probably like it in return wouldn't you? 
8. have you noticed people walking past on the street and saying hi their using manners just by saying hi to you so if someone on the street even a stranger says hi say hi back just don't respond to do you want free candy that would probably not end well.

Sailing on Lake Rua

 

Yesterday a group of people and I went sailing on Lake Rua. When we got there 

we had morning tea. We were taught how to set up the sail boat, after they told us how 

to make them we got the pieces and made them in groups of 3 or 4 people. I put on the 

rudder (the turning thing at the back) then we put up the sail which was harder than 

we thought, then we walked out the dinghy's to the water and tried sailing for the first time. 

While having lunch my friend Yago caught a fish with his hands, so I walked over to 

see and there was a small fish in his hands but then we released it again, later I was 

looking for other fish in the water and I caught 2 fish and found a trout that 

I chased for a while.

The first week back at school

 this week we have started zones training again i have been doing long jump to get better at it i was doing it yesterday and today my feet hurt today because of the landings i did. tomorrow we are going to tech for the first time this term which is pretty good. it has been nice to do maths again because i kinda like that.

This term

This term has been very good because of these reasons. At tech I’ve been able to do new things like 3d print stuff and make my own monopoly game and making a photo frame in the woodwork's class. And at school I've been able to do lots of things like for the topics we have been researching a reasonable garden for birds to be safe. Me and my friend Carter have been designing our garden with a leaning fence so cats can't get in and a supply area for food and for the birds to get some shade. We have a place with small trees. And for maths I think I've gotten a lot better. Now I've learnt improper fractions and more about decimals. for reading I've definitely gotten better now in tests I have gotten way higher scores and same with maths. So I think ive improved a lot this term and this is what I've achieved.

 

yesterday at tech

yesterday we went to tech and my group does digitech and wood works in digitech i made monopoly pieces based on mario including a four legged kirby which i will get next week. in wood works i made a key tag shaped as the discord logo made from mdf wood. th main project is a photo frame but we haven't started that yet

Maths

  For maths I have learned how to use pi.

pi =3.14159265359 but we use 3.14 for short here is an example

estimating the circumference of a circle

today we had to estimate the circumference of a circle by using our feet as measuring i got a total of 12 steps and i used pi to get 9.42 as my answer

Maths-Volume

This week my maths group have been learning the volume of shapes. The volume of a shape is the length x the width x the height. Eg:  

The volume of the shape is what it holds on the inside of the shape.

When we are working with volume we use m3  cm3 mm3 .

Maths - Area

For Maths I have been learning volume and area.

Area is the surface area of a shape. Area = l x w = mm2, cm2, m2

Adrenalin forest

last Wednesday me and a group of people went to the Adrenalin forest. At the forest there is 6 levels the higher the number  the harder and higher it is. i did 4 levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 the first one was basically walking along metal ropes harnessed to the sides to stay alive level 2 was a little harder but LEVEL 3 was true pain until you see the end level 4 is like 4000 times longer and a little harder your up that high that people on the ground look like ants in parts of it there is a zip-line that high that you have to harness to it and at the end there is a rope you have to ride then a rope slide then it was done and by then we basically had to go.

What I found out about my estimation process?

I was pretty close on all of them but estimating the distance I had to just look at the distance  and I just had to think about the distance. We were told that a football field was 100m post to  post and because of that it might help for other estimations over 100metres. I have to imagine  the number of football fields between me and my object. We did a smaller estimation of up to 10metres. First I put a disc out at an estimated 5 metres  and then one at 10 metres. I wasn't really close for the 5 metres but on the 10 metres I was  closer but then we did 6 metres and I was exactly on it.

for the William pike challenge passion project me and my friends have been doing outdoor skills like being able to do more thing then we could do before like i couldn't walk on top of the monkey bars at first and i can also swing a further distance to other things. its really fun to do with my friends because we do it together so thats what i have been doing for about 3 times so about 3 hours.
