The Tuatara

The Tuatara

The tuatara has been around since the dinosaurs.

They have sharp looking spines but there not for defence because there flexible. The Tuatara looks like a lizard but it isn't. It’s got more holes in its head. Baby Tuatara are born with a third eye on top of its head but when there about 2 weeks old it gets covered over by scales. There dark green with a little bit of dark gray. Tuatara are estimated to be able to live to 100-150 years old.

They can be found in offshore islands or in sanctuaries

The Tuatara lives in a burrow.

When the Tuatara is in its burrow it waits for food to walk by. They eat bugs and even baby Tuatara.

There Tuataras predators dogs.
